Big 12 Conference down to 10

If you are keeping up with the shenanigans of the Big 12 Conference this week,
here is the latest. Pac 10 Commissioner Larry Scott
had visions of creating a Super Conference to dominate
college athletics. He has been crisscrossing the country
in his Lear jet trying to coerce members of the Big 12
Conference into defecting to his West Coast Mob...but
he only wanted Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma State and Colorado. The others were to be left to fend for
themselves. Kansas and Kansas State are basketball
schools and never will compete with the others in football. The
University of Colorado fell victim to his smooth talking
spiel and will now join the Pac 10 Conference. The
University of Nebraska has never been comfortable
in the Big 12 Conference since 1996 when Texas and
Oklahoma became the big guns in the conference. The
Huskers are not accustomed to being a second echelon
outfit. Nebraska has decided to move to the Big Ten
Conference, thus making it the Big Eleven. The remaining
members of the Big 12 (now ten) are Texas...Texas A&M..
Texas Tech.. Oklahoma....Oklahoma State.. Baylor...
Iowa State.. Kansas... Kansas State...and Missouri.
In my news reporting days one of the key things to investigate
in any story is...who gets the money? The University of Texas
had wanted a bigger share of the pie when conference members
divided the dividends. Texas will now be allowed to start their
own TV Network and that is expected to bring in an additional
12-15 million dollars a year. I have no dog in this hunt as I am
a SMU man,...and I remember VIVIDLY in 1996 when Texas,
A&M, Tech, and Baylor dropped the old Southwest Conference
like a hot potato to join the Big 8 Conference,...now the Big 12
or Big 10 or whatever they are gonna call this band of thieves.
As you can probably detect, I am still a bit on the raw side from
their actions in 1996. SMU, Rice, Houston, and Arkansas were left to
find their own futures without any concern from the bigger
schools. The infighting this week between conference members
is just dirty laundry being exposed that has been there all along.
Nobody loves the flag of Texas anymore than me,...except on
the football field !!
