Hot Summer Day

The temperature has been in the middle to upper
90's this week so we decided to take the grandkids
for a swim. Grandson Joe Bob is eleven years old and
still working on his swimming stroke. He had more
fun just jumping in the pool than he did thrashing
about in the water. His younger sister, the newly
anointed seven year old, Lilly, was a little apprehensive
when we first got to the pool, but relaxed and
really enjoyed it after about five minutes. She is
really fearless for her age. She was diving off the
top steps of the pool and just as she was about to
go under, I would catch her. It was good therapy
just to hear the kids cackling with laughter. Granny
brought some refreshments and we made it one of
the more pleasant afternoons in recent times. It is
still a mystery to me how you can be in so much water,
but still work up a thirst while swimming. The
cool grapes and RC cola did the trick, and I also
used the grapes as bait for the kids to do tricks. The
water temperature was 85 degrees and the ambient
temperature was 96. Funny how you can still be chilled
when you get OUT of the water, but the concrete bank
of the pool was hot enough to blister your feet if you
stayed in one spot too long. This was a great day...and
probably what retirement is suppose to be.
